It all seems glamorous…shooting a sunset of El Morro in Puerto Rico while enjoying warm tropical breezes. But behind that image are also the unglamorous underpinnings of travel: airline cancelations, rebooking and cancelations again…scrambling to find a last minute and expensive hotel…3:30 a.m. wakeup calls for a 6 a.m. flight that may or not happen because of an unusual snow/ice storm in Atlanta…relief on finally boarding plane…realization upon landing that I am stuck in the ATL airport because the cabs aren’t running and the roads are too icey for family to pick me up.
At least once a week I get an email from a young photographer wanting to know how to travel and take photos. Maybe the short answer should be, “Count the costs.”

But, Gary! Travel is so sexy!! Go to far away places with people you don’t know; stay in strange places (with people you don’t know); eat alone (or with people you don’t know).
Really, so much fun!!
Oh! And I love every day of it!

Christopher…you know…I agree. Maybe travel is glamorous!
Great pictures and wise words.
When did you start shooting Nikon?
Amen to that!
So Jason, it is “been there, done that” for you!
